My friend has a hacked one that you put a certain CD and memory card in first, use a credit card cut to be shaped like a hook to manually pull the drive open, and then you insert the foreign game. Great for initial D.

Yeah, I’ve seen it. Also works for bootleg games. I’d rather a true region free, or at least Asian market. I can get past the NTSC/PAL issue no problem by myself, it’s just the region issue...
